How you make a difference

As a Medical Director, your main responsibility is to oversee and monitor all clinical programs, both new and existing ones. You will review and make recommendations to the Hospital Administrator for any changes or additions necessary to ensure the highest quality of patient care. You will also be involved in assessing, planning, linking, monitoring, and advocating for each patient assigned to clinicians in specific departments, while developing and conducting educational programs related to drug and alcohol abuse. Additionally, you will participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences and ensure the delivery of quality mental health care in accordance with hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a Medical Director, you will be responsible for providing supervision and clinical leadership for psychiatric care and practices, including attending multidisciplinary teams and court proceedings, and leading peer review for best practice projects.
  • You will be accountable for physician retention, ongoing review of their performance, and conducting interviews to evaluate their clinical competency.
  • You will coordinate the monthly Medical Student rotation, providing orientation and lectures, arranging case conferences, and providing in-service training as needed to other departments.
  • You will provide direct psychiatric care to patients when needed, including evaluation, psychopharmacologic treatment, psychotherapy, assessment for movement disorders, court evaluations, and discharges, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and patient safety standards.
  • Your role also involves maintaining clinic supplies and equipment for operations, understanding applicable nursing services, and related policies and procedures, including the use of seclusion and restraint and alternative interventions, documentation requirements, disaster and fire procedures, infection control, and risk management.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Osteopathic Doctor (DO) from an accredited university.

Experience

  • Seven years of professional experience in providing services to persons with psychiatric disabilities, two years of which must have been at the administrative clinical level, assistant director or its equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed in state of employment to practice medicine.
  • Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Additional Details

Must be a licensed MD or DO in California. This is an onsite position.
