About this role

Under the direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed health professional, the Psychologist/Program Director is a licensed Psychologist in California who is responsible for the oversight of the Jail Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) program operations, as well as the primary staff to assess and evaluate for competency restoration for approximately 5 patients. The Psychologist/Program Director will provide supervision to a small staff, be the primary designee for communications between JBCT stakeholders (the Sheriff’s Office, Department of State Hospitals [DSH], the courts, etc.), monitor program outcomes and success, maintain Policy & Procedure compliance, and provide all competency assessments.

What you bring to the table

Education:           

  • PhD or PsyD with Licensure as Psychologist in state of employment.

Experience:        

  • One + years of experience as a licensed Psychologist in the state of employment.

  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licensure as Psychologist in state of employment
  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA

Compliance:

  • Must obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the course of employment.
  • Must pass background investigation conducted by the Company and/or Facility as a requisite for initial and or continued employment.
  • May be required to undergo reasonable suspicion testing for being under the influence of controlled substances, including prescription, legal, and illegal substances, including marijuana.
  • Must undergo security training and orientation on Facility Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Must follow county facility policies and procedures.

What you will do

Program Director:

  1. Provide general oversight and ensure program compliance to align with the DSH and company Policy & Procedure (P&P) Manuel.
  2. Act as the primary designee to communicate with JBCT partners such as the DSH, Sheriff’s Office and local courts.
  3. Work cooperatively with the Sheriff’s Office team and foster supportive relationships between staff and Sheriff’s Deputies/Officers.
  4. Conduct monthly audits with the support of the Administrative Assistant to guarantee program adherence.
  5. Manage personnel using corrective action when needed with the assistance of the HSA/PM.
  6. Lead the weekly Treatment Team meeting, review patient Treatment Plans, and provide leadership as it relates to patient admissions, transfers, discharges, etc.
  7. Complete the initial DSH Screening Form for incoming patients and waitlisted patients, after reviewing the Population Management Unit (PMU) commitment packet.
  8. Read, approve, and sign-off of all reports and communications going to court.
  9. Provide clinical support to the Clinician and Trainer, as needed.
  10. Regularly attend groups within the milieu to ensure program adherence and sound delivery of clinical treatment and ensure milieu schedule adherence.
  11. Coordinate IMO/ALJ processes, as needed.
  12. Fill in for Clinician and/or Trainer as needed to include daily sick calls, daily or weekly psych-educational groups, daily or weekly competency educational training groups, etc.
  13. Document all findings in inmate's health record providing written summaries of history and treatment course or other documentation requirements as outlined by company and Facility, as needed.
  14. May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff.
  15. May assist in orientation and training of new employees.


Psychologist:

  1. Strict adherence to Department of State Hospital and company Policy & Procedure (P&P) Manual as it relates to the duties of the Psychologist.
  2. Use approved psychological testing measures to assess and re-assess patients every 30 days; comply with the reporting statues for the court.
  3. Assessment of cognitive impairment as needed and administer corresponding psychologist tests approved by DSH to determine cognitive functioning and ability to learn and be successful with JBCT.
  4. If malingering is suspected, administer proper and approved tests to determine treatment course.
  5. Keen awareness of and adherence to timely submission of court reports per the reporting statues is required.
  6. Strict adherence to DSH and company P&P, as it relates to all psychologist duties and functions.
  7. Participate in weekly Treatment Team meetings, and provide clinical support and/or guidance, as needed.
  8. Appropriate documentation and charting of interactions with patients in health record, if outside assessment parameters.
  9. Establish a weekly “Doctor’s Group” within the milieu, as needed.
  10. Participate in any coordination of IMO/ALJ processes.
  11. Work cooperatively with the Sheriff’s Office team and foster supportive relationships between staff and Sheriff’s Deputies/Officers.
  12. Document all findings in inmate's record providing written summaries of history and treatment course or other documentation requirements as outlined by company and Facility, as needed.
  13. May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff.
  14. May assist in orientation and training of new employees.
  15. Demonstrated ability to work on a computer including but not limited to: using the Internet, Microsoft Office products and Electronic Medical Record system
  16. Ability to touch type on a keyboard, operate basic office equipment including but not limited to using mouse and/or stylus to do electronic health documentation records
  17. Excellent communication skills
  18. Excellent knowledge of emergency care methods and procedures
  19. In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures and willingness to follow them at all times
  20. Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions and the blood borne pathogen rules
  21. Knowledge of 1370/IST patients and treatment
  22. Leadership and management experience
  23. Identifies problems in a timely manner and skillfully gathers and analyzes information then practically and creatively resolves problems.

  31. Promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials properly and takes necessary action to report incidences.
  32. Stays compliant with job applicable license(s) and/or certification(s), attends staff meetings and all required monthly, quarterly and annual trainings.
  33. Perform other duties as assigned.
