About this role
Assessment Clinician provides sex offender specific and related assessment services to program participants in the sex offender program within the Massachusetts Department of Correction (MADOC).
What you bring to the table
Education:
Masters or Doctoral degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related human services field
Licenses/Certifications:
Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
What you will do
Prepare comprehensive clinical evaluations for state inmates and newly committed residents.
Administer, score, and interpret psychological tests and risk assessment tools.
Compile written histories based on information gathered from questionnaires and clinical interviews.
Incorporate DOC files and criminal records into reports.
Generate clinical formulations and treatment recommendations based on clinical interviews, collateral information, results of testing, and outcomes of risk assessments.
Provide feedback sessions and review reports with inmates and residents.
Provide case consultation to treatment teams and involve treatment teams in assessment process.
Submit reports in a timely fashion and meet contractual deadlines.
Participate in administrative functions of the Assessment Team (database updating, assisting in compiling quarterly reports, addendums, etc.), as needed.
Maintain familiarity with relevant research and literature, particularly those related to assessment and treatment of sexual offenders.
Provide clinical services, such as facilitation of therapy groups or psychoeducation classes, as needed.
Coordinate services and activities with DOC personnel, when necessary.
Comply with all DOC policies and procedures.
Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, case conferences and supervision meetings, as required.
Ensure compliance with all facility and Wellpath protocol, procedures and guidelines.
Ability to conduct clinical interviewing
Ability to synthesize data and prepare comprehensive reports based on clinical considerations
Ability to provide clinical conceptualization and outline realistic treatment recommendations
Familiarity with the diagnostic nomenclature outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
Excellent listening and verbal communication skills
Excellent clinical writing skills
Interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport and maintain objectivity with a criminal or forensic population
Appreciation of the need for, and ability to maintain, appropriate personal boundaries in working with sexual offender populations
Investment in expanding current skills/knowledge and transfer of this knowledge to other staff
Ability to form and maintain good working relationships with a diverse staff and a commitment to enhancing cultural competency
Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
Perform other duties as assigned.
