About this role
The Director of Nursing at Alpine Special Treatment Center has overall responsibility for organizing, implementing, and evaluating the Nursing services provided at the facility. The Director of Nursing provides Nursing (licensed and unlicensed) staff with leadership, education, direction and guidance in all client matters and ensures full compliance with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to Title 9, HIPAA and CARF. Additionally, he/she must possess strong leadership skills as primary duties include the oversight, training and enforcement of quality care offered to clients on a daily basis.
The Director of Nursing has administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the nursing services within the mental health rehabilitation center and may serve only one facility in this capacity at any one time if the mental health rehabilitation center is 42 beds or more. The director of nursing service shall not have charge nurse responsibilities if the mental health rehabilitation center is 42 beds or more.
The Director of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. In collaboration with facility Administration, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility.
The Director of Nursing ensures compliance with department protocols, policies, guidelines, and facility standards, and assists with the coordination of daily operations, activities, and personnel of the department.
What you bring to the table
Education
- Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing
Experience:
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience in an acute setting recommended
- Emergency Room, Communicable Disease, with Medical and Surgical experience preferred
- Ability to work under pressure
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the State
- Current CPR certification
What you will do
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, organizes, directs, and reviews all facets of the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center Nursing programs and services; reviews policies, procedures, and methods used in County Behavioral Health programs for effectiveness and consistency with service goals and standards; develops new strategies, services and programs based on community needs; develops goals and objectives to accomplish program goals; identifies potential problems and generates innovative and creative solutions.
- Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, facility philosophy, and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Provides leadership, direction and oversight in the implementation of adult nursing and behavioral health services; supervises and directs the work of licensed and unlicensed nursing and administrative and support staff; interviews, hires, evaluates, and disciplines staff.
- Participates as a member of the Department’s management team in the review, development and implementation of policies and procedures for carrying out the Department’s goals and objectives.
- Assures that programs operate on the basis of sound administrative, fiscal and quality management principles within available financial resources.
- Identifies department-wide administrative, operational and service delivery problems; plans, develops, recommends, implements, and evaluate solutions.
- Reviews legislative changes for impact on existing programs; advises the Executive Team and Clinical Director on policy and legislative matters concerning mental health matters.
- Represents the facility at legislative hearings and other appropriate policy forums; confer with local, state and federal officials on nursing concerns; develops and promotes contacts, working relationships, and cooperative programs between the facility and other agencies and organizations involved in mental health and nursing services.
- Makes public presentations before the Executive Team, professional organizations, media, or public groups to provide information on mental health and nursing matters.
- Oversees professional continuing education needs and programs for all nursing staff.
- Oversees the preparation, analysis and distribution of Nursing Department reports and correspondence; coordinates the establishment and retention of various types of records and files.
- Provides oversight for the admissions and discharge process to ensure facility is able to provide adequate discharge instructions and resources.
- Completes review of client medical history and current assessment results to identify nursing needs and to develops a comprehensive nursing treatment plan upon admission, re-admission and with any change in condition.
- Monitors client progress based on the treatment plan.
- Oversees nursing schedules to assure they meet resident needs and regulatory and budgetary standards.
- Participates in client care on both macro and micro level including quality assurance meetings as well as clinic and treatment team meetings.
- Plans and implements actions necessary to correct deviations from established standards of documentation and care (incident reports, plans of correction, documentation deficiencies, etc.)
- Reviews incident reports and ensures issues are addressed, works with administration and other departments to ensure appropriate care and follow-up was completed.
- Establishes, implements, and monitors the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment designed to prevent the devilment and transmission of disease and infection.
- Participates in the preparation of the Plan of Correction response to an inspection survey, and implements any follow-up QA required for any nursing allegations.
- Monitors facility incidents and complaints daily to identify those defined as unusual occurrences by State policy and promptly reports such occurrences to Administrator/Executive Director for appropriate action.
- Monitors critical nursing processes and takes action necessary to improve quality nursing outcomes.
- Performs regular audits of important staff functions including medication administration, care planning, clinical documentation and medical records.
- Provides nursing oversight for the admissions and discharge process to ensure facility is able to provide adequate discharge instructions and resources
- Ensures nursing review of client medical history and current assessment results to identify nursing care needs and to develop a comprehensive nursing care plan upon admission, re-admission and with any change in condition
- Reviews consultant reports (i.e. pharmacy, medical records, drug regimen review, etc.) for clinical issues and ensures compliance with regulatory authorities
- Implement tracking and follow up for: short term care plans, monitoring, clinic notes, assessments, nursing care plans, weeklies, quarterlies, incident reporting, accommodations and complaints, MAR’s, and other documentation as required
