Massachusetts Alcohol and Substance Abuse Center (MASAC) provides a holistic approach to treatment that addresses all aspects of wellness for residents to achieve a fulfilling, balanced lifestyle that is free from substance use.  In this role, you make a difference in the lives of our residents every day.  You do this by building rapport with our residents, which is important and will help contribute to their ongoing progress. You will help ensure a safe, positive, therapeutic environment for our residents. You will provide assistance to each of our residents in handling individual problems and documentation, as well as identifying the need for services.  You will ensure residents are doing what they always need, as well as contribute to the care and upkeep of the facility. You will facilitate daily schedules to ensure resident participation and support in, but not limited to, patient activities, meal service, group sessions, transportation, and events.

About this role

The MASAC Residential Services Coordinator (RSC) is an entry-level position that learns to provide direct care to a specific patient population under the direction and supervision of personnel delivering treatment to the patient population at the facility. RSCs are trained to ensure a safe salutary environment throughout the facility and during community visits.

What you bring to the table

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Prior work experience with psychiatric patients in a hospital or secure mental health setting preferred, with a focus on patient safety.
  • Must be willing to participate in extensive, ongoing training regarding serious mental illness, de-escalation and intervention techniques, core strategies, patient safety and trauma-informed care

  • None required

What you will do

  • Performs the duties and responsibilities of a wide range of safety assignments throughout the facility as assigned.
  • Actively engages with patients in monitoring the environment and well-being of all.
  • Attends and contributes to treatment plans by providing input into the goals and objectives developed by the treatment team.
  • Works with the treatment team to institute individual de-escalation strategies and safety plans.
  • Observes patients and provides de-escalation and redirection as needed.
  • Performs regular rounds and wellness checks
  • Controls ingress and egress points for staff and patients
  • Monitors patient climate
  • Writes reports pertaining to a variety of subject matters
  • Monitors medication distribution
  • Works in a model in which the patient is verbally guided and kept apprised of changes to routine, environment, etc.
  • Provides supportive oversight of patients during off-site activities including medical visits, court trips and external consults.
  • Monitors and tracks environmental concerns through inspection of equipment, systems and physical structures to ensure a safe environment for all patients.
  • Interacts with the public when required
  • Follows policies and procedures.
  • Provides emergency responses, along with clinical and medical members of the treatment team, to address patient safety, which may include calming patients' disruptive and/or violent behaviors or threats of self-harm.
  • Employs use of verbal de-escalation techniques to modify or control patients' disruptive behaviors rather than physical force whenever possible
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
