About this role
Under the direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional, the Dentist will have the overall responsibility for the provision of dental care for the county in compliance with all applicable dental standards, state and federal regulations and laws.
What you bring to the table
Education for Dentist:
Graduate of an accredited dental school.
Experience for Dentist:
• Prefer correctional/detention facility experience • Minimum 3 years’ of experience, and correctional experience is preferred
Licenses/Certifications for Dentist:
• Unrestricted current dental license from the state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
What you will do
Provide and supervise dental care of patients
Relief of pain and treatment of acute and chronic infections
Extraction of unsalvageable teeth
Provide fillings to eligible persons served, as needed
Provide Phase One Periodontal Services to eligible patients, as needed
Detects disease by completing oral cancer screening; feeling and visually examining gums; using probes to locate periodontal disease and to assess levels of recession; exposing and developing radiographic studies
Maintains persons served appearance and ability to masticate by fabricating temporary restorations; cleaning and polishing removable appliances; placing, carving, and finishing amalgam restorations; removing cement from crowns and bridges
Ensure that all dental equipment is clean and in good working order
Function as a consultant to health services staff physician regarding dental issues
Provide in-service training for health services staff on issues such as dental hygiene, dental care, and dental emergencies annually
Document all services provided and refused in persons served dental/medical record
Provide direct supervision to the dental assistant and hygienist
Oversee that the sharps log daily and accurate with each dental clinic
Oversee the ordering of dental supplies and instruments
Ensure that dental facility and procedures meets both OSHA and Dental Board of California requirements
Observe HIPPA guidelines as it applies to a custodial environment to maintain confidentiality of persons served health information
Chart all findings in persons served record providing written summaries of history, diagnosis, treatment plan, treatment and other documentation requirements including necessary persons served conversations and as outlined by company and Facility
May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff
May assist for orientation and training of new employees
Contribute to the performance evaluations and successful training of direct reports
Perform other duties as assigned.
