About this role

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Clinical Specialist is a direct care position. The primary focus will be to conduct comprehensive assessments assessing level of risk and acuity of individuals, developing and initiating treatment plans, working closely with client and support systems to achieve treatment goals, and planning and facilitating of psycho education groups, reinforcement strategies or other specific client needs aimed at improving quality of life / level of functioning.

What you bring to the table

Education

  • Minimum of a M.A. or M.S. in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of (2) two years of experience or training working in a mental health program serving persons with severe and persistent mental disabilities. Such experience shall be in the direct provision of services to a program’s identified clients or residents. Population experience must include those experiencing psychosis or severe mood dysregulation.
  • Demonstrated experience in a mental health and/or chemical dependency setting (preferred).
  • Training or experience with electronic medical records (e.g. Cerner) preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current CPR/BLS certification (required)
  • Valid California driver’s license (preferred)
  • Registered intern, licensed or licensed eligible as Psychologist, MFT, LCSW, LPCC (preferred).
  • National Provider Number (NPI number) required.
  • CPI Certification (provided by the facility within first 90 days of employment). Interest in Crisis Intervention Training Certification and ongoing education preferred (CPI facilitator certification)

What you will do

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates and assists in the daily tasks associated with client care including evaluation of client safety and appropriate interventions related to the clients’ current functioning and safety. (e.g. client incentives and close observations)
  • Facilitates monthly multidisciplinary treatment teams and expectations of dissemination of information to direct care staff accordingly.
  • Works closely with admission and discharge staff in assisting with appropriate treatment outcomes.
  • Assesses client or family questions and concerns and develops a plan to address needs. Communicates information to appropriate person(s) in appropriate time frames to meet client or family questions, concerns, and/or expectations.
  • Completes intake/psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, and treatment authorizations as assigned (reviewed and overseen by licensed provider).
  • Ensures incident debriefings are reviewed, and staff – summaries are documented and completed.
  • Participates in the completion of conservatorship paperwork, extension requests and annual follow up documentation.
  • Provides education and support face to face with client(s) in preparation for phase changes, outings, treatment plan certifications, etc.
  • Serve as the contact point, advocate, and informational resource for clients, treatment team, family/caregiver(s), payers, and community resources.
  • Works together as an active member of the treatment team to uphold standards of competency amongst the team by collaborating with other clinical specialists.
  • Trains staff in various clinical areas, such as treatment planning, crisis intervention, and psychosocial rehabilitation model of care.
  • Reviews authorizations list and follows-up up on required extensions.
  • Attends weekly clinical team meeting as well as any other assigned meetings as needed.
  • Acts as an intermediary between facility departments, staff, and the patient/family, conservators, internal and external stakeholders to bring about the most effective treatment and positive experience.
  • Assists with delivery of client 30 Day Notices, as necessary
  • Performs medical record audits, and reviews clinical documentation for accuracy and in accordance with facility requirements. Monitor integrity of charts (storing of, HIPAA etc.).
  • May work with a caseload of clients from admission to discharge, following through on all aspects of the client’s residential care on a daily basis to ensure that the treatment plans designed are being implemented by team members on the units.
  • Participates in various committees and meetings related to department activities and responsibilities.
  • Provide support in full compliance with all regulatory requirements including facility policies and procedures and professional standards as well as Title IX and CARF regulations.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with emergency procedures and the location and operation of various emergency equipment and is able to communicate effectively to housekeeping staff.
  • Responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents and events.
  • Participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required.
